For roles in education, healthcare or childcare that require a specific safeguarding declaration tied to current legal requirements, that declaration is always requested separately by the hiring organisation. The two sit alongside each other - RVA handles your professional record, while sector-specific safeguarding forms remain the employer's process. Your RVA reference is timestamped and clearly dated so any employer knows exactly when it was given.
Can employers verify this is a genuine reference? +
Yes. Every reference on RVA includes the referee's name, title, organisation, and the date it was submitted. Referees also confirm the candidate's identity before submitting - dates of employment, job title, and date of birth - creating a verified record. Employers access references through a gated portal that requires a professional work email to view, adding a further layer of accountability. Each reference has a unique verification ID traceable back to the original submission.
What if my referee changes jobs or retires? +
